James D. Roberts joined the law firm of Chen Nelson Ltd. as
a partner on July 1, 2007, thus forming the law firm of Chen
Nelson Roberts Ltd. Chen Nelson Roberts Ltd. is a boutique
litigation firm primarily representing large and mid-size
businesses in business disputes. Before forming Chen Nelson
Roberts Ltd., Jim was a partner at the law firm of DLA Piper
US LLP and its legacy firms, including Rudnick & Wolfe,
where he was a member of the litigation department. Jim
joined Rudnick & Wolfe as an associate in 1989 after
graduating from The John Marshall Law School. Jim’s areas of
practice include commercial litigation, alternative dispute
resolution and litigation counseling. In addition to
commercial litigation, Jim’s practice includes class action
defense, real estate and construction related litigation,
landlord and tenant disputes, franchise litigation and
employment disputes. Jim has successfully handled numerous
cases in the federal and state courts, at both the trial
court level and on appeal. Jim has successfully arbitrated
claims before the American Arbitration Association, and has
been involved in numerous mediations. Jim’s experience
includes his representation of a national concert promotion
company in a $700 million antitrust and race discrimination
lawsuit that was included in Crain’s List 2005’s
Big Litigation, Crain’s Chicago Business, September 19,

Ct. 283 (2006). Jim graduated from The John Marshall Law
School (J.D. with distinction) in 1989, where he was the
winner of the 1989 Scribes Award, and graduated from Wheaton
College (B.A. Psychology) in 1982.
